But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the Lord.”

- 1 Kings 22:5 (NIV)

Have you ever jumped headfirst into a decision without asking the Lord about it?

Many times, we may forget that the Lord is our counselor and guide.

In fact, one of the Messiah’s very names is “Counselor.” (Isaiah 9:6)

In ancient Israel, a counselor was often portrayed as a wise king who guided his people, like King Solomon.

The Lord is also described as a counselor in Isaiah 28:29, “This also comes from the Lord of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance.” (NKJV)

The Lord’s position as our wonderful Counselor means we can trust Him and rely on Him for wisdom and guidance.

We can be at rest and secure, knowing He will listen to us when we need to pour out our heart to Him.

He is the only constant companion and holiest of helpers in our time of need.

He cares about every detail in our lives and has our best interest at heart because of His great love for us.

Knowing this, it is wise when we choose to seek the Lord in counsel concerning everything in our lives. He knows what is best, as His wisdom is unsearchable and incomprehensible to the human mind. He is qualified in every way to give us the advice and guidance we need.

As you go through your day and in the future, choose to seek the Lord’s counsel when it comes to decision making. You will find He cares a lot more about the things in your life than you realized!

“Lord, thank you for being my wonderful Counselor in all things. Help me to intentionally seek your guidance instead of making impulsive decisions driven by my flesh.”

With Love,
Sarah Sherstad
