The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still.  -  Exodus 14:14 NIV

The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still.

- Exodus 14:14 NIV

What does it mean to be still?

Being still is a position of vulnerability and surrendering yourself to the Lord at a place where you trust Him just enough to hold you up and give you rest in the safety of His arms while he fights for you.

So often we find ourselves flooded with feelings and thoughts that when we pray God doesn’t even have our full attention.

So often in our prayer time or those moments we seek Him, the flood gates open and all our complaints, hurts, challenges, questions, doubts, frustrations come barreling out. Then, all we hear is ourselves and He can barely get a word in. So often we are simply swept away with our day’s agenda and expectations that time is just fleeting.

To be still is being present in the moment with the presence of God- tuning out the distractions around us and the distractions within. Easier said than done…I know.

Bombarded with life’s demands and detours, finding time and balance, energy and emotion make it all seem so obscure. We have to be intentional. • Being still is that moment you close your eyes, dip your toe in the sand and listen to the ocean waves break their melodies along the shore. A reminder of God’s glory manifested in the beauty of His creation.

  • Being still is that moment you just don’t have the strength to stand and all you can do is whisper “I’m tired …Lord I need you”.
  • Being still is simply that moment when you close your eyes and exhale all that is in you and just breathe in all that is Him.
  • Being still is the moment when you hear that worship song and quiet tears stream down your cheeks as if it were written just for you for such a time as this.
  • Being still is that moment you open your bible to a scripture that brings you to your knees because in that moment, through that word, God’s love draped over you like a cloak and you know in your heart He heard that prayer you cried the night before in secret and he understood the language of your tears.

Friends, as I write this I am in my own moment of stillness. I may not have as many words to say but I invite you in to share this moment with me. We all need to be still and let God be God and let God be our Father and let God be our protector and let God be our defender and let God be our comforter and redeemer. Let God be God.

Let us lift our eyes to the hills where our help comes from! Let us lift our voices in a posture of praise! Let our hearts be open and allow yourself the freedom to be present in the moment with our Father and then give yourself permission to embrace the moment and just breathe and be still.

What is your “Be still” moment?

Father, Help me to be still and recognize those moments when you want me to see you, when you want me to hear you, when you want me to feel your presence near, when you simply just want me to be with you…still. By your grace, mercy and love for me! Amen!

With Love,
Jasmine Marrero
