And He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and listen to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”  - Exodus 15:26

And He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and listen to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”

- Exodus 15:26

What is on your mind today? Are you racing about with your to-do list?

Or are you finding that you can’t get much done because your heart and mind are heavy with worry? Are you waiting for test results, fighting a chronic illness, or a severe health battle?

The Lord understands.

In this verse, the Lord tells the Israelites that if they keep His promises and do what is right in His sight, He will not put on them any infirmities that the Egyptians were struggling to overcome. The rationale is that if we obey, we will be rewarded. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t suffer even if we do everything right.

We live in a fallen world where others have the free will to sin, and disease and death are prevalent.

But, we have a promise of healing for all believers going through challenging circumstances. God is able to heal and often does so. Other times, He chooses to heal in heaven. While it is impossible to understand His ways, we can trust that they are best.

So how can we have peace when we see pain and suffering all around us? How can we be confident that God is at work despite our hurt and that we don’t need to be afraid?

That overarching confidence comes from resting in the Lord’s sovereignty. It is knowing that despite what is happening to us or around us, God is in control, and we will be reconciled to Him in eternity.

Prayer: God, please be near me today. Comfort my aching heart and mind. Give me peace in my pain and suffering. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
