Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

- Hebrews 13:8

One of the questions I am asked more than any other is if God is real and He cares, then why does He allow pain and suffering?

Of course, we know that without free will and the ability to choose to believe in Jesus, we would not be beings with choices.

Therefore, we can choose between wrong and right which means we can harm others and others can hurt us.

But, when you are in the thick of pain, it is hard not to question God and ask why.

The disciples also struggled with this.

Initially, they envisioned Jesus as a liberator from the Roman rule. When He spoke of heaven, His death, and resurrection, they had difficulty grasping that His path would diverge from their expectations.

When He was crucified, they panicked!

Peter denied Him. Thomas doubted Jesus when He came back from the dead.

I love how the disciples show their humanity because it gives me hope.

If the disciples, who were literally walking with and listening directly to Jesus, had questions, doubts, and concerns, then Jesus surely understands my difficulties and questions.

So when those tough times come, focus on the who instead of the why. Who is Jesus? He is the way, the truth, and the life. He bore the weight of every transgression, triumphing over death. He is the light in the darkness and Emmanuel, God with us. He can be trusted. As you begin your day today, think about His incredible promises. Remember His unwavering presence with you and for eternity and give thanks! It will change your perspective and your life!

Prayer: Jesus, thank you. Thank you for your incredible attributes. Thank you for understanding my questions and doubts. Please help me to focus on you today instead of my current situation. Thank you for helping me see things through eternity’s light with you. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
