Daily Devotional • Luke 17:4

If he, [your brother] sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”  - Luke 17:4

If he, [your brother] sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”

- Luke 17:4

Did you know that forgiveness is good for your whole being?

Forgiving others frees you from the bitterness that weighs you down.

It gives you a new perspective, opening space in your mind for other things.

When we rehash someone’s sins against us, it takes up energy and time and keeps us in a state of depression or sorrow.

However, forgiveness isn’t easy and doesn’t excuse sin!

Some sins against us are so hurtful that they may require counseling and seeking justice from authorities. And sometimes, we even have to forgive someone multiple times as things come to mind.

However, forgiveness is what God’s Word tells us to do because it is good for our well-being.

You may be asking, but what if the person didn’t ask to be forgiven? Or what if the person is harmful and you cannot be around them?

Forgiveness isn’t reconciliation. It only requires that we release the person to Jesus and allow Him to handle.

Prayer: Jesus, please help me to forgive those who have hurt me. Free me from the thoughts and pain that wear me down and keep me in bondage. Amen.

With Love,
Sherry Shepherd
